Pruned the fig tree

It may be a little hard to see in these before and after pictures, but I took lots of wood off the the tree.  I’ve read that mature fig trees can withstand some pretty severe pruning.  In some areas of Europe, it’s the practice to cut the trees all the way back to the trunk each year.

That’s a bit drastic for me,  but I do want to reduce the overall size of the tree.  I’m trying to take off about 1/3 of its height each year and thin it out.  There’s a ton of information about all aspects of growing fig trees at Figs4Fun. Eventually, I expect to have enough room next to the fig tree to add another little something – an avocado perhaps?
